KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — BRNG LLC, along with its affiliate Beaufort Rosemary, plans to invest $900 million in building a new energy generation facility in Kershaw County.
The project is expected to create 15 permanent jobs and enhance South Carolina's electric grid.
“We are excited to work in Kershaw County and with the Bethune community to help meet the future power needs of South Carolina. We look forward to continuing development of this project and being a positive member of this community,” remarked Dylan Casey, Vice President of Beaufort Rosemary.
The facility is expected to begin operations during the second quarter of 2028, according to the company.
The project will be located between the Charlotte and Columbia metropolitan areas, where officials said the site provides access to natural gas and propane pipelines, high-voltage electric transmission lines, rail service, interstate highways, and future fiber connectivity.
Once operational, the facility is expected to help meet South Carolina's growing energy demand while improving grid reliability during periods of peak electricity use and emergency conditions.
The plant will be designed with a dual-fuel system that can operate on propane if natural gas service is interrupted, allowing electricity generation to continue while preserving natural gas supplies for other critical needs.
“We would like to thank Beaufort Rosemary for choosing Kershaw County for their new facility. Their investment will strengthen the local tax base, create hundreds of regional construction jobs and assist the state in meeting surging regional energy demand,” said Kershaw County Council Chairman, Ben Connell. “We wish them much success with this facility and look forward to a great partnership in the coming years.”
Officials say the facility is also expected to include black start capability, which enables a power plant to restart and generate electricity independently after a widespread grid outage. The feature can help speed the restoration of power following major emergencies.
"We are thrilled to welcome Beaufort Rosemary to Kershaw County as they commit to powering the community with $900 million in capital investment and the creation of 15 new, well-paying jobs, said Central SC Alliance Chairman Tushar Chikhliker. "This project not only represents a significant capital investment but strengthens the foundation that allows existing businesses to expand, new industries to invest with confidence, and residents to benefit from a more reliable electric grid. Infrastructure projects like this position our region for long-term prosperity."
