Authorities Urge Preparedness as Severe Thunderstorms Loom Over Grant County

JOHN DAY — Authorities are urging preparation ahead of a potential weather event that could occur later Thursday, May 28.

The National Weather Service Pendleton in a Facebook post reported the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms peaking in intensity after 1 p.m. and continuing through the evening.

The post said the storm is expected to push out of the area shortly after midnight.

Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley urged preparation ahead of the potential stormy weather. McKinley in a press release said chances of high winds, large hail, heavy rains and even tornado activity have been reported.

The sheriff’s office recommends residents have fuel in their primary vehicle, generators and chainsaws before the arrival of the storm, as well as having water and nonperishable food on hand.
