9 jobs that are already being automated in companies like PepsiCo, Bimbo, and Aeroméxico

Automated jobs are already a reality in large companies such as PepsiCo, Cemex, Bimbo, and Aeroméxico. Artificial intelligence, robots, and autonomous systems are replacing repetitive tasks in logistics, manufacturing, finance, and customer service, transforming job functions and redefining professional profiles.

Job automation is no longer a future projection; it is a reality in some of the world's largest companies. Recently, PepsiCo shared that in the United States it is already moving goods via autonomous transportation, thanks to Gatik's technology, which specializes in autonomous logistics.

But other companies in manufacturing, retail, logistics, and finance are joining this trend, redefining human work, allowing organizations to bet on technology to replace repetitive tasks, whether through artificial intelligence (AI), robots, or other automated systems.

The PepsiCo case has drawn attention because it involves the company operating driverless trucks to transport its products; the units are equipped with cameras, radar, AI to detect obstacles, and LiDAR sensors, a type of technology that uses laser beams to measure distances precisely.

As for the drivers, some are being reassigned to technology supervision or customer service roles. This is not the only example: Cemex, Bimbo, and Aeroméxico are among other companies that have bet on automation of certain positions.

Jobs that are already being automated in companies

1. Senior executives and decision-makers

Leadership and analysis positions are being transformed, as Cemex has started using LUCA Bot, an AI financial agent trained with confidential internal figures, through which its executives can obtain detailed financial analyses in seconds, which previously took hours or even days.

The company explains that the technology corresponds to Azure OpenAI models that process more than 100 indicators in natural language to provide self-service to employees, allowing them to get quick answers to urgent problems and make decisions faster.

2. B2B salespeople

The strategic relationship with customers no longer depends solely on the seller's intuition, and Coca-Cola FEMSA knows this. That is why it adopted an AI model that, through the Juntos+ platform, personalizes customer service using algorithms that generate suggested orders and personalized recommendations to anticipate inventory needs and facilitate the purchasing experience.

3. Inventory managers in warehouses

Inventory management is automated with technology that checks stock in real time without manual and constant counts. Autonomous systems and robots already have the ability to scan aisles and even restock and visualize inventory in real time, as is already happening at OXXO.

4. Logistics and distribution planners

Through machine learning, companies like Grupo Bimbo have begun using predictive algorithms to calculate exact demand at points of sale, which eliminated the imprecision of manual planning and helped optimize energy consumption, reduce waste, and translated into operational cost savings and greater logistics accuracy.

5. Counter staff

Aeroméxico is one of the companies that has bet on transforming customer service through automated interfaces with the help of virtual assistants and chatbots that can resolve doubts and perform simple transactions in their first-contact interactions.

According to the World Economic Forum, these positions are among those with the greatest automation potential.

6. Packaging and assembly operators

Repetitive product conditioning tasks are moving from manual to semi-automated, with automated machinery designed to integrate custom packaging lines. In this way, FEMSA and Solistica automated manual operations with technology to increase productivity, which involved the elimination of some operational positions.

7. Preventive maintenance technicians

Aeroméxico no longer waits for failures to occur to solve problems; it now uses AI to predict them through predictive maintenance algorithms that analyze sensor data in real time. Thus, technicians go from repairing failures to supervising systems that indicate when a part should be replaced, improving safety and optimizing times.

8. Risk analyst and fraud detection

Bank of America is one of the banks that has already automated data analysis areas to prevent financial crimes through predictions with systems that monitor transactions 24/7, process millions of monthly queries in seconds, and detect anomalies that a human might overlook.

9. Industrial production operators

Collaborative robots and high-precision robotic arms already mimic human dexterity in complex production lines at Bimbo and Tesla to execute assemblies and material handling with minimal human intervention. They can operate without interruptions, reducing material waste.
