Bank Asia PLC has handed over a solar-powered irrigation project in Bogura that can supply up to 50,000 litres of water an hour, aiming to lower irrigation costs and provide marginal farmers with a more reliable water supply.

The two-tier system was established under the bank's corporate social responsibility programme with technical support from the Rural Development Academy, Bogura.

The project was handed over to a local farmers' association on 12 July, 2026.

Dr Md Abdul Majid Pramanik, Director General (In-charge) of the Rural Development Academy, attended the ceremony as chief guest, while Tahmidur Rashid, Senior Executive Vice President of Bank Asia, was present as special guest.

Ferdous Khan, Director of the Rural Development Academy, chaired the programme. Members of the farmers' association and other guests also attended.

According to the bank, the solar-powered system can extract and supply 50,000 litres of water an hour, improving irrigation access while reducing farmers' dependence on conventional energy sources.

The project is expected to reduce irrigation costs, support agricultural productivity and promote more sustainable farming practices. The bank said the system would also provide water for household use.

Bank Asia handed over a similar solar-powered irrigation project to a farmers' association in Rangpur in November 2025.

The bank said the Bogura project formed part of its efforts to support sustainable agriculture and rural communities through its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
