SYDNEY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Boomi, the data activation company for AI, today announced that Brickworks has modernised integration architecture using the Boomi Enterprise Platform, unlocking previously inaccessible enterprise data, accelerating technology delivery, and building a scalable foundation for future growth.

“We wanted to essentially move our data onto highways, while also creating reuse and unlocking data that we couldn’t previously access,” said Keiren Lawrence, CIO at Brickworks.

Brickworks is one of Australia’s leading building products businesses, with a long history in manufacturing, distribution, and property. The organisation is best known for its strong portfolio of brands across Australia, New Zealand, and North America with brands such as Austral Bricks, Austral Masonry, Bristile Roofing and Glen Gery supplying a large range of building products to residential, commercial and infrastructure markets. At its core, Brickworks combines trusted manufacturing capability, design-led products and a strong customer-facing brand presence.

Brickworks employs approximately 1,800 people globally and operates a broad network of manufacturing plants, design centres and retail outlets. Their customer base is diverse, spanning builders, architects, developers, contractors, resellers and homeowners across residential, commercial and infrastructure markets. Rather than serving a small defined customer set, Brickworks supports a wide ecosystem across the building and construction industry.

Brickworks recognised the need to strengthen its core operational capabilities and modernise its technology foundations to keep pace.

Brickworks' integration landscape had historically been built on single-use, point-to-point connections, limiting the organisation's ability to access, share, and act on its data. Valuable information remained trapped in documents and disconnected systems. Building new integrations became increasingly slow and costly. To support future growth, Brickworks set out to establish a scalable, reusable integration architecture capable of activating trusted enterprise data.

“We wanted to essentially move our data onto highways, while also creating reuse and unlocking data that we couldn’t previously access,” said Keiren Lawrence, CIO at Brickworks. “This moved integration from a one-off background capability to a core strategic enabler for the team to really drive business outcomes from core technology.”

Brickworks engaged long-standing Boomi partner Atturra, which had previously rolled out the Boomi Enterprise Platform across its systems, to implement Boomi Companion alongside their own Atturra Integration Accelerator (AIA) to connect Brickworks' product information management system with its content management system.

“We’ve been working with Brickworks on business transformation and unlocking strategic business benefits by transforming and uplifting the application architecture and the integration,” said Peter Savage, Field CTO for Data and Integration at Atturra.

Rather than pursuing a traditional integration build, which could have taken more than 80 business days, the AI-driven approach compressed delivery to 12 days, standing up 18 interfaces while meaningfully reducing cost. The solution produced thorough and easily maintainable documentation, meaning late-stage changes could be handled through simple iteration rather than starting over. Attura's AIA along with their subject-matter expertise gave the Brickworks team added confidence in the design decisions behind the automation.

The project reflects a broader shift in Brickworks’ approach to integration, building platform-based architecture patterns that unlock speed, reliability, and reuse for future initiatives. In a recent complex marketing integration involving the migration of product data to a newly launched website, the team delivered the full set of integrations without disruption, despite a tight timeline and a series of last-minute changes that would traditionally have caused weeks or months of delay.

“In addition to receiving the benefits of not having to move data by hand, Brickworks also unlocked future capabilities that will help it achieve its wider business goals,” said Savage. “When we rolled out the Atturra Integration Accelerator with the Boomi Companion, we basically achieved every one of the goals that we set for ourselves, and it's been a tremendously successful partnership.”

As Brickworks worked to modernise its platforms, it was crucial to do so without creating complexity. Lawrence said, “Boomi is a really important part of our strategy, and gives us a controlled, scalable way to connect our systems and activate our data.

“Since modernising our integration architecture with Boomi, our platform usage has increased by 700 per cent, enabling teams to act faster and provide the correct data when and where it’s needed, unlocking insights that just weren't possible before,” said Lawrence.

The significant increase in usage has come with only a 50 per cent rise in costs – meaning Brickworks has defined those architectural patterns, to reduce the cost and complexity of integration, providing improved support and reliability for customers. One example came from procurement, where Boomi unlocked over 40,000 records of previously inaccessible spend data, and captured line-level detail now feeding category management analytics by orchestrating mailbox extraction and routing 135,000 PDFs through Azure Document Understanding. Brickworks' teams now have increased visibility into information, opening up new opportunities for vendor negotiations, pricing decisions, and broader spend analysis.

Going forward, Brickworks' strategy is to build on the scalable, secure foundations already established, extending strong governance across data integration and automation as the business scales. This will allow faster, more confident delivery for customers, with greater accuracy and a stronger overall customer experience. Brickworks plans to expand its use of agentic AI capabilities within the Boomi Enterprise Platform, while continuing to build the trusted partnerships it has formed.

“Brickworks has demonstrated that when integration becomes a strategic capability, organisations can unlock the full value of their data,” said David Irecki, Chief Technology Officer, APJ at Boomi. “Together with Atturra, we are proud to have helped Brickworks build a scalable, reusable integration foundation that enables faster delivery today while creating the trusted data needed to scale with confidence.”
