JACKSON, Wyo. — The Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) is planning prescribed fires this fall on the Jackson and Blackrock Ranger Districts.
The planned burns could start as early as Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the North Zone of BTNF. U.S. Forest Service (USFS) officials anticipate that the work could continue through the end of the year, as conditions allow.
The work will include pile burning in the following areas: Shadow Mountain, Pritchard Pass, Hoback Campground, Taylor Mountain, Darwin Ranch Flagstaff Road, Pacific Creek, and other administrative sites. Crews will perform broadcast burning in two areas: 6 miles southwest of Jackson, off Fall Creek Road, near Bronco Road; and 25 miles northeast of Jackson in the Upper Gros Ventre near Slate Creek and Haystack Fork.
Smoke could be visible in the area, and the USFS will work with air quality specialists to monitor smoke during the prescribed fires. BTNF asks that the public not report these fires, as firefighters will remain on scene. USFS will evaluate conditions in the days and hours before ignition, and fire activities could be postponed or canceled if conditions are not favorable.
