Bus Éireann has been given the go-ahead to carry out a substantial expansion of its headquarters in Monaghan.
Senior officials with the State transport provider lodged plans with Monaghan County Council’s planning department today last October for the ambitious project at its station along the town’s North Road.
Those designs included moves to undertake a single-storey extension by enclosing an existing internal courtyard.
Perhaps more significantly was how the plans also included moves to reshape the “entire internal layout” of its main building in order to “improve accessibility and functionality”.
In addition, Bus Éireann bosses outlined proposals to replace the station’s roof, the reconfiguration of its external fenestration or windows layout.
Likewise, company officials spelled out its desire to redesign the way its existing bus circulation currently operates by adding four new bus bays while also installing a new canopy to provide an additional covered waiting area for customers.
As part of those customer led improvements, a dedicated guide dog area, new and designated pedestrian walkways as well as a new drop off area were similarly included in the ambitious redesign plans.
Monaghan County Council has since granted planning approval to those plans subject to 12 conditions.
