Speaking at the second annual Urban Conservation Awards, Assemblymember John Harabedian (D-Pasadena) announced that the Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy will receive $3.57 million to support wildlife habitat conservation efforts in the San Gabriel and Crescenta Valleys.
“This funding will help the Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy purchase critical properties from Pasadena to Shadow Hills, connecting wildlife corridors and keeping the path to the San Gabriel Mountains open for the animals that depend on it,” said Harabedian. “I hope this is just the beginning of long-term, robust support for urban conservation to provide our community with places to gather, heal, and observe our precious wildlife.”
The funding was allocated from Assembly Bill 113, the latest piece of California’s 2026 budget, after the request for funds was championed by Harabedian during budget negotiations. The money will allow the Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy to purchase and preserve several parcels of land that were determined by urban ecology research to be critical to improving the connectivity of urban wildlife habitats that are divided by freeways and other development.
