US Reports Four Dead After Attack on Boat in the Caribbean
Military operation was executed against a vessel linked to drug trafficking.
Four people died during a United States military operation against a speedboat allegedly linked to drug trafficking in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) reported this Sunday.
The operation was carried out by members of the Joint Task Force-Western Hemisphere (JTF-WHEM) as part of the security actions undertaken by US authorities against illicit activities in the region.
According to the official statement, the boat was navigating one of the routes commonly used for drug transport. The intervention occurred after the military obtained intelligence information indicating its alleged involvement in drug trafficking operations.
"Under the direction of SOUTHCOM, JTF-WHEM forces executed a lethal and kinetic strike against a speedboat operating along established drug trafficking routes in the Caribbean," the military command stated on its social media.
SOUTHCOM described the four deceased as "narco-terrorists" but did not provide their identities or specify the exact location where the attack took place.
No information has been provided so far regarding possible arrests, drug seizures, or damage to other vessels as a consequence of the operation.
