NEW DELHI, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on the expanded BRICS and partner countries to keep industrial and supply chains "stable and unimpeded," amid disruptions to maritime transport through the Strait of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war.
According to the state news agency Xinhua, Xi said the "expanded BRICS" should lay a "solid foundation" for practical cooperation during the final day of the 18th two-day BRICS Leaders' Summit in New Delhi.
He spoke at an open session titled "Sustainability, Innovation, Cooperation, and Resilience: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth."
The Chinese President said the Global South has become a "key force driving the world towards multipolarity" and called on countries to support multilateralism.
He also said Global South countries should "support the authority and role of the UN" and advocate for reforms to improve the efficiency of multilateral institutions.
Xi called for improving the international financial architecture, increasing the representation and role of developing countries in decision-making, and reforming the WTO in the "right direction."
The Chinese President also called on the "expanded BRICS" to modernize traditional industries, develop emerging sectors, and formulate forward-looking plans for future industries, promote integrated markets, and "lay a solid foundation for practical cooperation."
He also proposed initiatives for the development of talent in science and technology, intelligent manufacturing, the digital industry, trade and investment facilitation, and open and inclusive artificial intelligence (AI).
