Cerrejón announced that Claudia Bejarano will conclude her tenure as president of the company on June 30, 2026, ending a 42-year career with the mining company.

Bejarano joined Cerrejón in 1984 as an intern in the Project Management team responsible for completing the company's infrastructure. Since then, she developed a career in various financial and administrative positions until assuming the Presidency at the end of 2019.

During her tenure, she faced some of the most complex moments for the organization, including the COVID-19 pandemic, a labor strike, attacks on the company's infrastructure, as well as an environment marked by coal price volatility, changes in the international market, and legal uncertainty.

Under her leadership, Cerrejón also strengthened its social and environmental programs. The company highlighted the promotion of a dialogue model with neighboring communities and the development of projects built jointly with them. Among the main achievements is the volunteer program "Juntos cambiamos vidas" (Together we change lives), which coordinated the work of 59 contractor companies to support educational initiatives in La Guajira.

In environmental matters, during her presidency, over 5,300 hectares were rehabilitated and more than four million trees were planted. Likewise, the Wüin Manna biodiversity corridor was consolidated, connecting the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta with the Serranía del Perijá.

Edgar Alfonso to assume the Presidency

As of July 1, 2026, the Presidency of Cerrejón will be taken over by Edgar Alfonso, currently the company's Vice President of Finance.

Alfonso is a public accountant from the National University of Colombia, holds a master's degree in Finance from the University of the Andes, and an MBA from Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management. He has more than two decades of experience in the mining-energy sector, working in businesses related to coal, copper, nickel, iron ore, and oil.

Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions such as Head of Finance Pampa Norte in Chile and financial officer for Joint Operations in Brazil at BHP, in addition to serving as vice president of Cerro Matoso at South32, among other executive positions.

The transition will take place gradually over the coming weeks with the aim of ensuring operational continuity and compliance with the company's commitments.
