Clydebank school received heat pump system upgrade
A Midlands-based business is helping schools cut costs and carbon by extending the life of existing heat pump systems.
Zeuner, an engineering consultancy based in Coventry, has refurbished and upgraded a 20-year-old ground loop heat pump system at a secondary school in Clydebank, rather than fully replacing the infrastructure.
Chris Reilly, founder, said: "Balancing the layout and design of the existing installation with the school’s specific needs requires we take a tailored, consultative approach.
"Zeuner’s engineers take time to scrutinise the existing system and understand the client’s needs.
"This collaborative approach also means we can offer the best solution to meet precise specifications, such as the lab’s pinpoint climate requirements."
The upgraded system now includes a 350kW ground source heat pump that uses natural refrigerants and supports a laboratory with highly controlled temperature needs.
It also features a heat recovery circuit and a separate chilled water supply.
Chris said: "Many commercial heat pump installations are approaching end-of-life, but that doesn’t necessarily mean costly replacement.
"Building managers need to be aware that there are solutions that can save significant amounts of money, while enhancing the energy efficiency of the existing estate over the long-term."
