A “significant wildfire” has broken out in a field in Essex, sparking urgent warnings ahead of a spell of hot, dry weather.
The blaze, near Saffron Walden, has raised fears about the risk of similar fires racing through crops and farmland as temperatures climb.
An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We're currently dealing with a significant wildfire near Saffron Walden, and with hot, dry conditions set to continue, the risk of fires spreading across crops and farmland remains high."
The service advised: "We know you're entering one of the busiest times of the year, but now is the time to prepare."
Crews are urging farmers to download the what3words app to help pinpoint the exact location of fires quickly, and to call 999 as soon as any blaze is detected.
The spokesman added: "We know how hard you work to protect your land and livelihood.
"By preparing now and reporting fires early, you can help us protect Essex's farms, crops and rural communities this harvest season."
