Eurobank stated that investment and access to financing are crucial for the further development of Cyprus’ healthcare sector. The bank made this statement during the 9th Cyprus Healthcare Conference in Nicosia, as reported by Cyprus Mail.

The role of banks in sector development

Eurobank Wholesale Banking General Manager Fivos Stasopoulos stated at the conference that a modern healthcare system cannot develop without investment and access to capital. He noted that the role of banks extends beyond traditional lending; financial institutions can serve as strategic partners for the sector’s growth, innovation, and transformation.

Eurobank views healthcare as a dynamic sector within Cyprus’ economy in recent years, with the Gesy general healthcare system identified as a significant driver. The institution assesses that private investment, new infrastructure, and increasing investor interest are creating additional opportunities for the sector’s expansion.

Digitalisation and medical tourism

The conference, held on Thursday, focused on the challenges and opportunities within the healthcare sector. Discussions included digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the development of a sustainable healthcare services ecosystem in Cyprus.

Stasopoulos emphasized that the effective direction of capital towards projects and business models capable of creating value for patients, investors, and the economy is as important as the availability of funds. He also highlighted sector consolidation, suggesting that greater scale can enable medical institutions to better utilize technology, offer more specialized services, and enhance competitiveness.

The bank indicated that the sector’s expansion should be underpinned by a clear strategy, sound corporate governance, and sustainable business models. Eurobank also sees potential for Cyprus to become a regional hub for medical tourism, rehabilitation centers, medical technology, and research. Stasopoulos believes that realizing this potential requires cooperation among banks, investors, and healthcare providers.

Eurobank expressed its commitment to supporting investments aimed at improving the competitiveness, international presence, and sustainability of the healthcare sector, thereby contributing to the development of Cyprus’ economy.
