Gold continued to decline under pressure on Wednesday, briefly approaching the key psychological level of $4,050 per ounce, very close to the low set earlier this month. FedEx's operating profit margin for its express business fell to 7.7% from 8.4% a year ago due to rising employee wages and benefits, outsourced transportation, and fuel costs. Although FedEx's earnings exceeded expectations and its revenue is expected to surge this year, its stock fell 6% in after-hours trading on Tuesday.

The U.S. Department of Energy announced on Tuesday that it will provide $17.5 billion in conditional loans to utility companies and energy companies to purchase parts needed to strengthen the U.S. commercial nuclear energy supply chain.
