Florida’s average price for regular gasoline jumped from $3.89 per gallon yesterday to $4.07 today, according to AAA—an increase of 18 cents, or about 4.6% overnight.
Today’s average is 10 cents higher than one week ago, when regular gas averaged $3.97, and 20 cents higher than one month ago, when it averaged $3.87.
In Jacksonville, AAA data shows regular gas rising from $3.8881 yesterday to $4.0986 today—a jump of 21.05 cents, or about 5.4%. The Jacksonville average is nearly 22 cents higher than one month ago and about $1.03 higher than last year’s $3.0699 average.

Ways to save money at the pump
AAA recommends several ways drivers can improve fuel economy:
- Slow down and avoid hard acceleration. Driving above 50 mph can significantly reduce fuel economy, while “jackrabbit” starts use more gas.
- Keep tires properly inflated. Underinflated tires reduce fuel economy and can affect handling and braking.
- Avoid unnecessary idling. If stopped for more than 60 seconds, AAA says shutting off the engine can save fuel.
- Combine errands and avoid heavy traffic when possible.
- Remove unnecessary weight and roof racks when they are not being used.
- Use the most fuel-efficient vehicle available for each trip.
- Maintain the vehicle according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and address a Check Engine light promptly.
- Check the owner’s manual before buying premium fuel. AAA research found premium gasoline provides no added benefit unless it is recommended or required by the vehicle manufacturer.
