"Dirty" trolleys, little to no food safety management and health and safety concerns were among a raft of issues uncovered at Fosse Park's branch of Dunkin' Donuts.

Blaby District Council (BDC) food inspectors visited the Dunkin' Fosse Park doughnut chain on June 3 and found a number of problems at the store before issuing it with one of the lowest food hygiene scores – a one out of five.

During their visit, inspectors found major structural problems in part of the building, including a dirty floor area near the extended kitchen, which was said to be "not suitable" flooring and a part in the bar area that was "severely damaged".

It was also observed that a refuse bin was found to be "overflowing" which "posed a risk of attraction of pests".

In response to the damage, food hygiene bosses said the "floor covering [was] not adequate" and should be "repaired or replaced".

Cleaning was also an issue at the Fosse Park branch, which inspectors called "inadequate" after finding a dirty doughnut trolley with "debris", spillages that needed mopping up, and debris on the floor that needed a "thorough clean".

Inspectors also found that staff were leaving their clothes "haphazardly" in parts of the restaurant with fears of "cross-contamination risk" whilst electric fly killer covers and bulbs were also missing.

In the hygiene report – seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) – there were also major concerns about food safety management with inspectors saying they found no evidence of it.

They said that staff were "not carrying out the identified controls at critical points and there were "no fridge temperature checks, cleaning records or delivery checks". It was also found that staff were "defrosting.. toasties... at room temperature".

Inspectors made strict demands of the chain, making sure that staff were "properly trained and have the means to carry out the necessary controls and monitoring procedures".

Staff also pointed out to food hygiene bosses that there was no WiFi signal in the store, which meant that food management systems weren't being carried out, and a printer inside the chain "didn't work".

Trolleys and boxes were also found blocking the chain's fire exit, whilst one trolley had plastic wrapped around the wheel, which inspectors said was a potential trip hazard.

The LDRS contacted Dunkin' for a response to the food hygiene rating but didn't receive a comment in time for publication.
