The Regional Prosecutor's Office of Rosario confirmed this Thursday that the four suspects identified after the crime at a Chinese supermarket have been arrested. All will be charged in connection with the death of the elderly man who was at the door when the shooting occurred.
The announcement was made early the day after the murder of Roberto Ferrari, a neighbor who used to go to the store every afternoon from his home. The premises at Sanguinetti 5200 opened closed amid the pain of the attack, which included the use of a sign with mafia threats.
Provincial security forces tracked down the alleged criminals at Pasaje Zola 3600, just over a block from the supermarket. An hour after the operation began, officers detained a 60-year-old man and three other suspects. Rolando V. was taken into custody along with Daniel V. (38), Sebastián I. (24), and Nahuel V. (19).
The murder of a neighbor overshadowed a birthday
According to evidence and testimony gathered by the Public Prosecutor's Office (MPA), the victim was killed minutes after 7 p.m. "They shot him in the head," one of his daughters emphasized this Thursday morning.
Ferrari was well known in the neighborhood because every afternoon he would go to the supermarket to sunbathe, sitting on a Coca-Cola crate. There he used to chat with employees and other neighbors.
The perpetrators of the crime took the neighborhood by surprise. In fact, a woman living across from the store was celebrating her birthday at the time of the shooting. As soon as she stepped out onto the sidewalk, she noticed a person lying on the ground and everyone began asking where her son was, who usually crosses the street to buy cigarettes.
"When we found out it was Roberto, that was it," the neighbor said on LT8. She added: "We couldn't go on because it was all anguish, crying. With this insecurity, you don't know if you'll go out to buy something and make it back home."
How was Roberto Ferrari killed?
Among other details of the case, the witness added that the deli manager was with her at the party, as she also lives in the area. "Imagine how she is, it could have been for her too," she warned.
Minutes later, Ferrari's daughter gave her account of the attack and was distraught because she believes "nobody is going to do anything" to clarify the incident. She then stressed that the attack was not directed at the supermarket and emphasized: "The Chinese owners have nothing to do with it, they are neighborhood people."
The woman stated that she was working at the time of the homicide and learned of the events from a neighbor's shouts. According to her statement, the killers arrived on foot and opened fire near the business.
Ferrari's daughter recalled that her father was retired and had worked his entire life as a charcoal burner. "Poor thing, he held on for a while until the ambulance arrived. Still, they couldn't have done anything," she lamented.
