Ilirska Bistrica: First renovation of school gym in more than half a century
Ilirska Bistrica – The municipality of Ilirska Bistrica continues investing in improving public infrastructure and quality of life. A contract has been signed for the rehabilitation of municipal roads on ten sections across the municipality, as well as a contract for the energy renovation of the gym at Podgrad Primary School.
The total value of both investments is nearly two million euros. The projects will contribute to greater road safety, better energy efficiency of public buildings, and create better conditions for work, sports, and everyday life for residents.
Rehabilitation of municipal roads on ten sections
Mayor Dr. Gregor Kovačič and Vlado Švab, marketing director of CPK Koper, signed a contract for the rehabilitation of municipal roads. The project includes the renovation and improvement of road structures on local roads and public paths to increase traffic safety, improve driving characteristics, and extend the lifespan of road infrastructure. The work will include resurfacing and rehabilitation of road surfaces, preparation of foundations, installation of new asphalt layers, local repair of damage, drainage arrangement, edge reinforcement, and other associated work. Work on approximately 2.5 kilometers of road network will cost the municipal budget nearly 777,000 euros. "We must complete the contracted work by December 18. We will engage and finish on time," assured Vlado Švab from CPK Koper.
Work will first be carried out in Zarečje and Koritnice; the order of work at other locations will be coordinated between the municipality and the contractor.
Energy renovation of Podgrad Primary School gym
They also signed a contract for the energy renovation of the gym at Podgrad Primary School. Mayor Kovačič signed it with Maks Godina, director of the company Godina.
This is a comprehensive energy renovation and refurbishment of the building, which will reduce energy consumption and operating costs. At the same time, conditions for sports and other activities will improve. The project includes the complete execution of construction, finishing, and installation work, including reconstruction and static rehabilitation of the building, thermal insulation of the building envelope, modernization of mechanical and electrical installations, renovation of interior spaces, and exterior landscaping with associated utility infrastructure.
The value of the contracted work is nearly two million euros. The contractor will complete the work within five months of being introduced to the site, i.e., before the end of this year.
New school in Podgrad opened in 2019
The old school was prefabricated, erected in 1975, and was supposed to last three decades. But students and children had to endure there until September 2019, when they finally moved into the new building. It has two floors and a basement, with 3,000 square meters of space, enough for nine regular classrooms and three specialized classrooms, eight offices, three playrooms for kindergarten children, a kitchen, changing rooms, administrative offices, and all other needs.
"It will be an energy renovation for which the municipality has also secured 261,000 euros in co-financing from the Ministry of Environment, Climate, and Energy. The gym at Podgrad Primary School has not been renovated since its construction in 1975. The building will be completely renovated, with a new insulation envelope, mechanical and electrical installations, lighting, and renovated sanitary facilities. Thus, the building will be in line with the spirit of the times, standards, and norms," said the mayor.
In addition to the school and gym in Podgrad, construction of a new fire station is also underway, which will also be completed this year. The contractor for both buildings is the same: Godina Gradbeništvo.
