Tijuana BC.- The failures that still occur in the public lighting system of Tijuana are mainly related to damage in the wiring, acts of vandalism, and vehicular accidents.

The head of the Secretariat of Territorial, Urban and Environmental Development (Sdtua), Virginia Alejandra Vargas González, indicated that the lighting modernization program has an advance of around 15 thousand units installed.

She noted that the works have been carried out in the nine delegations of the municipality.

They carry out reviews to detect possible failures

She indicated that the lights contemplated within the multi-year scheme for 4 delegations of the Eastern Zone have practically already been placed and, currently, reviews are being carried out to detect possible failures.

We already have around most of the lights installed in what are the 4 delegations that were for the multi-year”

She stated.

The municipal official, Vargas González, explained that the service interruptions are not due to defects in the lights, but to external factors that require additional repairs.

“We have had situations, we already know that if there are crashes, for example, they can damage the poles,” she said.

They detect acts of vandalism

Under that premise, she also stated that acts of vandalism have been detected in different parts of the city.

We also often have a certain issue of vandalism where they cut the cables and that forces us to go back”

She commented.

The head of Sdtua indicated that the rains recorded during the first half of the year also caused temporary delays in installation, because the work involves electrical infrastructure.

Lights are part of a project

She specified that the installed lights are part of a project with a maximum limit of 20 thousand units, although she clarified that this figure will not necessarily be reached.

Finally, she stated that the municipal goal is to modernize all existing lighting infrastructure in the city, replacing old sodium vapor lamps with LED technology.

They were supposed to place the last lights of the multi-year, 15 thousand, which concluded last week, right now they are finishing the reviews, because they are going to check a system in all those that are georeferenced”

She added.
