On Thursday night, police officers from the Judea and Samaria District conducted an emergency operation to rescue a conscripted soldier. The young man was found in the center of the Palestinian town of Tarkumia, located west of Hebron. According to preliminary interrogation, the incident has no terrorist background.
Information about the Israeli being in a closed area reached the Shai District Police through intelligence channels and direct coordination with Palestinian security services. It was reported that a man in IDF uniform was being held in Tarkumia.
Operatives from the Hebron police station immediately responded to the call. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found the soldier with his hands bound by plastic cable ties. By that time, a large group of local residents had begun gathering around the serviceman.
Police quickly intervened, took control of the detained soldier, and evacuated him from the danger zone to a safe location – the Hebron police station.
During the initial investigation, it was determined that the rescued soldier is a regular army serviceman living in a locality in southern Israel. At the time of the incident, he was unarmed.
During police questioning, the soldier gave his version of events. He had a long-standing criminal dispute with several local residents. During this conflict, the opponents forcibly took him to Tarkumia, threatened his life, and bound his hands.
Since the victim is an active-duty soldier, further investigation has been fully transferred to military authorities. The Military Police Investigation Department (MECHAH) is handling all related details. Military investigators promptly arrived at the Hebron station for an in-depth interrogation and to determine all causes of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
