Lebanese Finance Minister Yassin Jaber condemned the Israeli attacks that targeted the city of Nabatieh and its surrounding area, which led to the destruction of a large number of buildings and infrastructure, in addition to the destruction of the building of the Banque du Liban branch in Nabatieh.
In a statement, he affirmed that human losses remain the most painful, with dozens of casualties falling daily, considering that targeting civilians and homes constitutes unjustifiable crimes, especially amid what is supposed to be a ceasefire phase.
Jaber pointed out that the continuation of systematic destruction despite the Lebanese state's engagement in direct negotiations under American sponsorship raises major question marks about the objectives of the Israeli escalation.
He noted that the attacks targeted official institutions and security and military agencies, culminating in the destruction of the Banque du Liban branch in Nabatieh, which provided the minimum financial requirements related to relief operations, considering that this carries a direct message to the Lebanese state.
The finance minister said that targeting official institutions may aim either to increase pressure on the Lebanese negotiator ahead of the fourth round of negotiations in Washington, or to undermine the entire negotiation process and impose facts by force. He called on the state sponsoring the ceasefire agreement to intervene decisively to compel Israel to immediately stop the attacks, warning that the continuation of this path could threaten state institutions and undermine their ability to perform their duties during this sensitive phase.
