Russian missiles struck Ukraine's capital Kyiv on Friday, with explosions heard across the city, Mayor Vitali Klitschko was quoted as saying by Reuters.
The attack comes after a Russian drone strike in the Kyiv region early on Friday morning injured five people, including three children, regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said on Telegram.
Earlier on Thursday, Russian forces continued a barrage of attacks on Ukrainian cities, including a strike on an industrial park west of Kyiv that killed one person, a local official said.
Russian forces have traditionally carried out most attacks at night, but in recent weeks have increasingly launched strikes during daylight hours.
Peace efforts to end Russia's 4 and a half year full-scale invasion have stalled, with territorial concessions in eastern Ukraine remaining one of the key sticking points. Successive rounds of US-brokered talks have failed to yield a breakthrough, while Ukraine is also seeking security guarantees from its partners as part of any deal.
US president Donald Trump said in a social media post on Monday that Russia and Ukraine had mutually agreed to stop attacking each other's energy facilities. Such strikes have caused significant supply disruptions in both countries.
