The Assemblea Sobiranista de Mallorca (ASM) has called for a rally on Saturday, July 4, at 11:00 a.m., in front of the United States Consulate, to congratulate the American people on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence (1776-2026).

«The declaration of independence of the United States is one of the more than 190 that have already occurred in the world, and it reminds us that a state of our own is the only realistic way to face the problems caused by colonial oppression. In the case of Mallorca, it is increasingly evident that massification, overexploitation of the territory, the demographic bomb, fiscal plunder, underfunding, and Castilianization can only be resolved with the political and economic power of an independent state», explain from the ASM.

At the sovereignist rally, homage will also be paid to the Menorcan sailor Jordi Ferragut Mesquida (Ciutadella, September 30, 1755 - Point Plaguet, Pascagoula, Mississippi, June 4, 1817), remembered in the United States as George Ferragut, who fought both on land and at sea in favor of the American revolutionary independents.

Jordi Ferragut emigrated to America in 1773, and by 1775 he was captaining a small ship that made the route between Havana and Veracruz. He voluntarily and enthusiastically joined the cause of the Americans against the British Crown and received the rank of first lieutenant of the South Carolina Navy. He participated in key battles such as the defense of Savannah, where he was captured by the English in 1780. Once released in a prisoner exchange, he joined the land army. According to historical tradition, he even saved the life of Colonel George Washington (future first president of the United States) at the Battle of Cowpens. At an advanced age, he again took up arms to fight against the English in the conflict of 1812. The lineage of Jordi Ferragut made history, as his son, David Glasgow Ferragut, inherited his seafaring vocation, became a hero of the American Civil War, and was appointed the first admiral in the history of the United States Navy.

The ASM has explained that the rally has been officially communicated to the colonial delegation of the Spanish government and the US Consulate and that Consul Kimberly Marshall will be asked to receive a representation of the ASM.
