Metrolinx is implementing changes to GO train and bus services starting Saturday, which will include some service reductions. However, the provincial agency has stated that no changes are planned for rush hour rail service.
The adjustments will primarily affect weekend train services on the Lakeshore East, Lakeshore West, Barrie, and Stouffville rail lines, as well as some GO bus routes. Metrolinx indicated in a news release that these changes are intended to "recover from high ridership demands during FIFA and to provide the capacity for future service needs."
According to Metrolinx, these measures will "address seasonal adjustments to align service with demand, shift some rail service to bus as an interim measure to address the availability of train crews, and provide an opportunity to advance important work on the Barrie and Stouffville lines." These interim measures are expected to be in place until spring 2027.
Specific changes to GO train service include:
- Weekend service on the Lakeshore East and West lines will revert to running every 30 minutes.
- Weekday midday and evening service to and from Niagara Falls will be adjusted.
- Weekday evening and weekend service on the Barrie and Stouffville lines will be modified, with some trips being cancelled.
For passengers on the Barrie and Stouffville lines who will be affected by train cancellations, Metrolinx will provide additional bus service on replacement routes 65, 68, and 71. Customers traveling to and from Niagara Falls will have access to GO bus route 12, which connects with Lakeshore West line service at Burlington GO.
GO bus service changes include:
- Service to post-secondary schools will be reinstated starting Saturday on bus routes 15, 25, 29, 30, 41, 47, 52, 56, and 88.
- Additional trips will be added to routes 15, 19, 25, 27, 30, 33, 40, 41, 47, 52, and 56 starting Saturday.
- New bus stops will be added on routes 30, 47, and 67.
Seasonal GO bus services to Canada's Wonderland, Toronto Zoo, and route 25K (Toronto Premium Outlets) have concluded for the summer, with Sunday being the last day for these routes. Metrolinx stated that "Some bus trip schedules have been changed to enabled better connections with rail and bus to balance trip frequency." The agency also noted that it "continuously monitor[s] our schedules and ridership network-wide to ensure our GO Transit services align with ridership demand" and provides "as much notice as possible of future adjustments."
