The Civil Guard, specifically members of the ROCA Team of the Beas de Segura Company, has clarified 92 crimes of electricity fraud and investigated 70 people as alleged perpetrators of these acts, within the framework of various actions carried out in the municipalities of Villacarrillo, Santiago de la Espada, La Puerta de Segura, Villanueva del Arzobispo and Beas de Segura.

The actions, which have been carried out since August 2025, began after detecting the existence of numerous supplies illegally connected to the electrical grid through fraudulent manipulations of the installations ("illegal hookups"), facts brought to the attention of the Civil Guard by the electricity distribution company.

The Civil Guard established a device for collaboration and support to the technicians of the distribution company during the inspections carried out in the properties under investigation, simultaneously proceeding to identify those responsible for the supplies in which the existence of electrical fraud was confirmed. Likewise, some of the fraudulent connections inspected were linked to cannabis crops, so proceedings have also been initiated for crimes against public health against some of those investigated, with narcotic substances being seized.

The economic damage derived from these fraudulent connections amounts to 314,489 euros. According to the technical estimates made, each of the illegal hookups detected would have meant an average annual consumption of about 12,000 kilowatt hours, equivalent to about 3,400 euros of electricity consumed irregularly. The proceedings and those investigated have been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority. Illegal connections to the electrical grid, in addition to constituting a crime, put people's safety at risk and affect the quality of the electricity supply, causing overloads, voltage drops and breakdowns in the distribution network, with possible damage to the installations and appliances of other users.
