A sample of Nestlé's Low Fat Dairy Whitener collected from Delhi's The LaLit hotel has been declared "unsafe" and "substandard" by FSSAI, leading to a halt in its sales.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) stated that the Food Analyst's report classified the sample as both "substandard" and "unsafe," indicating non-compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The specific reasons for the product being deemed unsafe were not publicly disclosed by FSSAI.
FSSAI provided the laboratory analysis report to Bharat Hotels Ltd., the food business operator, for necessary action. A notice was also issued to the hotel. The hotel was given an opportunity to appeal the report within the stipulated period. Concurrently, FSSAI directed the immediate prohibition of the sale of the identified product.
This action follows a previous legal case initiated by FSSAI against Nestle India concerning three infant nutrition products: NAN Excella Pro Stage 1, Lactogen Pro 1, and a Follow-up Formula. Concerns were raised regarding promotional claims for NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 and Lactogen Pro 1, and a separate Follow-up Formula sample was found to be substandard due to its Biotin content.
