NORTH ADAMS — City officials say that reports of discolored water early this week should be resolved — but a couple of neighborhoods may experience some dirty water Tuesday night while the Water Department finishes the job.
On Sunday, North Adams posted on Facebook that the Water Department was working to address multiple reports of discolored water. Some on Facebook listed parts of Veazie, Pleasant, East Quincy and East Main streets as experiencing dirty water.
In a Tuesday email, Mayor Jennifer Macksey said that an imbalance in the system at the water filtration plant led to the dirty water. To flush the system, the Water Department opened some hydrants, which she said also added to the dirty water.
As of Tuesday, all readings at the plant are back to normal, she said, and “everything should be good with the system.”
But, the Water Department will continue flushing in the Mohawk Forest and Autumn Heights areas tonight, which Macksey said could cause another round of dirty water.
If any residents continue experiencing discolored water, officials said to run cold water for several minutes to help flush household plumbing until the water runs clear.
If the discoloration persists after a few hours, they should contact the Dispatch Center at 664-4944, extension 1.
