MT. CHARLESTON ( FOX5) — NV Energy is issuing a Public Safety Outage Management warning for customers in the Angel Peak and Kyle Canyon zones near Mt. Charleston due to elevated fire weather conditions.

The company said a WARNING designation means an outage is imminent unless weather conditions drastically improve.

A proactive outage is scheduled to begin Saturday, June 27, at approximately 12 p.m. and last until Sunday, June 28, at approximately 10 a.m.

NV Energy said the timeframe includes the duration of the weather event and the time needed for crews to inspect lines and other equipment for damage, vegetation or debris before safely restoring power.

NV Energy will open a Customer Resource Center on Saturday, June 27, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Retreat on Charleston Peak, 2755 Kyle Canyon Road, Mt. Charleston, Nev. 89124.

The center will offer device charging, light snacks, water and outage updates.

NV Energy said PSOM is a measure to help protect communities and the environment from wildfires. During a PSOM event, power is shut off to prevent power lines, debris blown into power lines or other equipment from causing a wildfire when certain environmental conditions are met.

Factors that contribute to a PSOM event include weather conditions, vegetation levels, field observations and guidance from local fire departments and other first responders.

All impacted customers will be notified by phone, text and email. NV Energy said it will also contact Green Cross customers in the area to offer accommodations if a PSOM event is initiated.

NV Energy said it will continue to monitor fire weather conditions and provide regular updates to impacted customers.

More information, including PSOM criteria, preparedness information and zone maps, is available at nvenergy.com/PSOM.
