More than half a million households have switched their energy to Octopus Energy so far this year – equivalent to almost every household in Manchester, Coventry and Leicester combined joining the supplier in just seven months.
The milestone means Octopus now powers almost 15 million meter points across Britain* – and around 26% of the home energy market** – as more households continue to choose the company for better service, innovative technology and smarter ways to lower their energy bills.
The news comes as Octopus celebrates its tenth anniversary. Launched in 2016 as a small British challenger, it has grown from a startup into the UK’s largest energy supplier – the first company to take the top spot since the market opened up to competition in the 1990s.
Putting customers first has been at the heart of that growth. Octopus has been named a Which? Recommended Provider for nine consecutive years – more than any other energy supplier – thanks to its customer service, fair pricing and innovative products.
It also has the highest Trustpilot and Glassdoor ratings of any major UK energy supplier, was named Britain’s Most Admired Company in 2025 and was included in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work top 10 for 2026.***
Greg Jackson, Founder and CEO, Octopus Energy, said:*
“Half a million homes have chosen Octopus already this year because they want an energy company that works harder for them. We’re humbled by the trust people have in us to deliver what matters most to them.
“It doesn’t feel that long ago that we were a small team squeezed into an office in Hammersmith. Today there are 12,000 of us looking after millions of customers, but our mindset and focus hasn’t changed: relentlessly driving fair prices, great service and technologies that help cut bills for families and businesses.”
