Amid the tensions in West Asia, there is relief for India. 15 ships carrying fertilizers and raw materials have safely crossed the sensitive 'Strait of Hormuz' and are heading towards India. The Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has provided this information. 8 ships contain 3.32 LMT of urea, 4 carry 2.57 LMT of DAP, and 3 carry 1.11 LMT of sulfur. This has averted the threat of fertilizer shortage for farmers.
Which ships carry how much quantity? According to the Union Ministry, among these 15 ships that have crossed the Strait of Hormuz, there is a large quantity of fertilizer essential for Indian agriculture.
- Urea: 8 ships carry 3.32 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of urea.
- DAP: 4 ships carry 2.57 LMT of Di-ammonium Phosphate.
- Sulfur: 3 ships are loaded with 1.11 LMT of sulfur.
In addition, 5 more ships are scheduled to depart for India carrying fertilizer stocks in the coming days.
Government in action mode amid global challenges Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said, "The conflict in West Asia has severely impacted global supply chains. This has led to a rise in fertilizer prices in the international market and delays in shipment arrivals." He added that during these difficult times, Indian missions (embassies) abroad have actively helped the Fertilizer Department establish direct contact with global producers and suppliers. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is committed to protecting farmers' interests.
Natural gas supply restored 100% Another relief for the government is that the supply of natural gas to fertilizer plants, which had dropped to 65% a while ago, has now been restored to 100%. This will accelerate domestic fertilizer production.
India has buffer stock of fertilizer available According to the Fertilizer Ministry, the country has currently stockpiled 197.56 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer. This stock is more than 51% of the country's annual requirement of 383.9 LMT of fertilizer. Thus, through the coordination of imports and domestic production, there will be no shortage of fertilizer across the country in the coming time.
