The Russian army, intensifying missile strikes on Ukraine, is taking advantage of a global shortage of anti-aircraft interceptor missiles, which has become a critical problem for the international air defense system. This is reported by the British newspaper The Guardian.

Despite US efforts to ramp up production of interceptor missiles, the shortage will remain significant for several more years. Analysts predict that the acute shortage will persist for at least 2–3 years. Measures to increase production volumes were taken after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but the process of manufacturing and deploying new systems requires time and resources.
The publication notes that the consequences of the shortage are most acute for Ukraine and the Persian Gulf states, but they also have a long-term global impact. In practice, this has already affected Russia's tactics in the war against Ukraine, especially amid disputes over the supply of Patriot systems, which at certain periods were either limited or insufficiently effective due to political disagreements between Kyiv and the previous US administration.
The shortage problem has become even more urgent amid threats from Russia to launch new massive strikes on Ukrainian territory, including government buildings and key civilian infrastructure. The interceptor shortage also complicates NATO's combat readiness planning, as allies must account for potential threats from Russia in Europe.
Analysts note that the situation arose from a combination of several factors: past cuts in defense spending, erroneous assumptions about long-term missile needs, and an inability to foresee that in the event of escalating conflicts in the Persian Gulf region, the US and Israel could conduct prolonged active use of missile weapons.
The portal 'Comments' has already written that Ukraine faces the threat of a new massive missile strike from Russia in the near future. This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky, citing information received from Ukrainian intelligence services.
