The Pentagon is preparing to release the solicitation for the next iteration of its primary cloud-computing contract vehicle on August 24.
The Joint Warfighter Cloud Capability (JWCC) contract is the Defense Department's established method for procuring cloud services from major hyperscalers: Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) announced this date as part of its monthly acquisition updates.
The upcoming version, to be known as JWCC Unified Cloud Marketplace, will broaden the scope of what the DOD can acquire through this vehicle.
Tier 1 will continue to serve the hyperscalers. Tier 2 is designated for "everything-as-a-service" offerings, encompassing software, platforms, and non-hyperscale infrastructure. Tier 3 is specifically reserved for what DISA terms "Commercial innovators and small businesses," targeting emerging companies and smaller businesses.
DISA has not yet provided an estimated value for the JWCC Unified Cloud Marketplace.
Currently, the JWCC vehicle has a ceiling of $9 billion. Data from Deltak indicates that AWS has received the largest share of task-order obligations ($526.5 million), followed by Microsoft ($221 million), Oracle ($76.9 million), and Google ($35.9 million).
