The heavy rain brought by the southwest monsoon has made pumping stations across Pingtung County nervous. The newly completed Wannei Pumping Station also conducted trial pumping operations. Wannei Village Chief Chen Yuyi said that repeated floods had made villagers worried every time heavy rain came. This year, the pumping platform has finally been built, and with six pumps ready for action, they can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The Wannei Pumping Station, located at the confluence of the Wandan Main Drain and the Gaoping River, has completed its pumping platform this year. As the southwest monsoon enters southern Taiwan and heavy rain is forecast for Pingtung County, the pumping station has deployed six pumps on the platform, ready to operate during the heavy rain. Since it is being used for the first time this year, Village Chief Chen Yuyi was concerned about issues and inspected the site with Wandan Township Office personnel today to conduct trial pumping, ensuring the pumps function normally. The trial results met expectations.
Chen Yuyi stated that because Wannei Village tends to flood during typhoons and heavy rain, and worried about pump malfunctions, he stays at the pumping station all day, constantly monitoring the water levels of the Gaoping River and the Wandan Main Drain, staying on high alert and not daring to sleep. Fortunately, the county government has established a pumping platform this year and improved the efficiency of mobile pumps. Now that the southwest monsoon is approaching, he must understand the operation of the pumping system. With six pumps in place, efficiency has greatly improved. If a detention pond combined with a park can be built in the future, the local flooding problem could be completely solved.
