Pinterest is appointing Amazon veteran James Dibbo as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective October 26. Dibbo will succeed Julia Brau Donnelly, who is departing the company on October 30 to lead finance at Sierra, a conversational AI platform. Dibbo has spent over five years as VP and CFO of global entertainment, advertising, and corporate development at Amazon, where he has worked for a decade. Prior to Amazon, he was CFO for P.F. Chang's China Bistro for approximately two years.
The CFO transition occurs as Pinterest aims to attract new advertisers and users. CEO Bill Ready recently highlighted the platform's evolution into an "AI-powered shopping assistant." Despite reaching a record 640 million global monthly active users in Q2, the company reported a GAAP net loss of approximately $46.6 million for the quarter, a decrease from a net income of $38.75 million in the prior year period. Citi analysts noted a turnaround in progress, citing positive developments in advertising monetization tools like AI Bidding and improvements in the sales force, even amidst international market challenges.
In his new role, Dibbo will oversee Pinterest's global finance organization, encompassing finance, accounting, FP&A, investor relations, treasury, tax, and business and corporate development. Dibbo, 56, is a chartered accountant and previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London. His compensation package includes a $650,000 annual base salary and restricted stock unit awards initially valued at $19.98 million, with an additional award of $9 million expected in April 2027, subject to continued employment. Ready expressed confidence in Dibbo's "growth mindset" and advertising expertise, stating that Dibbo's experience in leading large global businesses and understanding the intersection of consumer experience, shopping, advertising, and technology will be invaluable as Pinterest continues to enhance its platform for users and advertisers.
