The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has seized and destroyed 270 kilogrammes of unsafe meat in a crackdown in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed, while a case was registered against the supplier, officials said.

According to PFA Media Coordinator Haider Gilani, food safety teams set up checkpoints at various locations across the city on the directions of the director general to curb the supply of adulterated and unsafe food. During the inspection of a suspicious rickshaw near Chowk Sarwar Shaheed, the team recovered around seven maunds of substandard meat being transported for supply. A veterinary doctor declared the meat unfit for human consumption, following which the food safety team destroyed it on the spot.

PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed said enforcement operations would continue without interruption to ensure the provision of safe and quality meat to consumers. He urged citizens to report complaints regarding food safety to the Punjab Food Authority’s helpline 1223.
