Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned that European Union countries that agree to deploy French nuclear weapons on their territory would become direct "priority targets" in the event of an attack on Russia.
Speaking to Russian media on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Maria Zakharova stated that countries opening the door to plans to deploy French nuclear weapons on their soil are taking a very serious risk, but the gravity of the situation has not yet been understood in European capitals.
"European countries, by opening their bases to France for strategic air forces and allowing the deployment of French nuclear weapons on their territory, are becoming priority targets in a possible attack on our country. But for some reason they cannot grasp this."
Zakharova emphasized that steps in this direction will not strengthen Europe's security, but on the contrary will increase risks by turning the continent directly into a hot target.
