Russia's offensive has failed miserably on several fronts: ISW report and maps
On October 6 and 7, Russian forces continued offensive operations on several fronts, but failed to achieve confirmed advances on most sectors. At the same time, Ukrainian forces are conducting counterattacks, particularly near Lyman, Kupyansk, and Dobropillya.
The ISW also noted Russia's attempts to increase pressure on Ukrainian positions, primarily in the Donetsk region.
What is known about the situation on various fronts?
- Sumy direction
In the north of the Sumy region, Russian troops continued limited offensive actions. No confirmed advances by the occupiers were recorded, while Ukrainian forces conducted counterattacks.
Russian military bloggers claimed advances near Korenky, Korchakovka, and Novodmitrovka, but these claims lack independent confirmation.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces continue to strike Russian military targets in the Bryansk region. In particular, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported hitting an electronic warfare station near Grinevo and a Russian radar station in Yelonka.
- Kharkiv direction
In the northeast of the Kharkiv region, Russian troops attempted infiltration actions near Vovchansk. Russian military bloggers continue to spread exaggerated claims of enemy advances in the area where the Vovchansk and Velykyi Burluk directions meet.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck Russian military positions after a likely infiltration attempt east of Vovchansk.
Russia aims to push Ukrainian forces away from the international border and create a buffer zone near the Belgorod region.
- Kupyansk direction
Near Kupyansk and Kovyagivka, Russian troops continued offensive actions but also failed to achieve confirmed advances. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces conducted counterattacks north of Kupyansk.
Separately, ISW noted the more active use of reconnaissance drones by Russia. According to a Ukrainian commander, the occupiers are extensively using "Orlan-10" drones, among others, and use operators and forward observers to control reconnaissance drones.
- Lyman direction
On this sector, Ukrainian forces continue counterattacks along the eastern bank of the Zherebets River northeast of Lyman.
Russian forces have not yet managed to consolidate their positions around Lyman itself. A Russian military blogger admitted that the superiority of Ukrainian forces in manpower and drones makes it difficult for the occupiers to advance.
- Sloviansk-Kramatorsk direction
Russia is attempting to increase pressure on the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. A Ukrainian commander reported that the Russian command is redeploying additional forces from other sectors of the front.
The occupiers' goal is to create conditions for larger-scale offensive actions and attempt to advance towards the agglomeration before winter. However, ISW estimates that the current pace of the Russian offensive does not allow the Kremlin to achieve this goal quickly.
Russian forces also conducted an infiltration operation east of Kramatorsk, after which Ukrainian forces struck Russian positions in the Malynivka area.

We remind you that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Zabrodskyi, developed and submitted an updated strategy for conducting combat operations to the National Security and Defense Council for consideration. The so-called "war plan" proposes changing approaches to defense and sets specific deadlines for tasks to preserve Ukraine.
