The Syrian South Ignites.. Fears in Damascus of an Attack by Armed Druze Groups with Israeli Support

A senior official in the Syrian government confirmed that there is fear of "Druze groups" launching an attack in southern Syria with support from Israel.

The official told the "i24NEWS" channel that groups in As-Suwayda are preparing for an operation against government forces, and confirmed that the Syrian government believes Israel will encourage and support this armed action.

The official's statements came in light of the ongoing tension over the future of As-Suwayda Governorate, which has a Druze majority and has become one of the most sensitive security challenges facing the government of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

According to the official, the increased presence of these armed groups on the contact lines is raising fears in Damascus of renewed fighting in southern Syria.

Druze figures in the governorate recently announced to the channel that "a military operation to retake Druze villages may begin soon."

It is worth noting that Israeli army forces have moved military and technical equipment to the countryside of As-Suwayda, Syria, to establish a base on the summit of Jabal al-Arab, known as Jabal Hauran or Jabal al-Druze, coinciding with the escalation in the south.
