A flood watch is in effect for much of Connecticut from early Monday through Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Sunday night, the NWS had declared the watch for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties. Excessive runoff could result in flash flooding of rivers, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone areas. Urban flooding also is possible, according to the NWS.
Starting Sunday night, the NWS was calling for periods of heavy rain, with the heaviest rain Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning. Total rainfall of 1-3 inches is expected, but some areas could see localized downpours and 4-6 inches of rain within six hours.
The NWS advises residents to monitor the weather and be prepared to take action if flood conditions develop.
