When the call comes, Sicamous Fire Rescue (SFR) answers.

At the BC Wildfire Service’s (BCWS) request, two local crews recently deployed to help fight wildfires that are raging across the province.

On Aug. 5, the BCWS asked Sicamous to send a Type 6 Engine to Keremeos to help battle the Sinlahekin Fire that, at 120,692 acres (48,842.32 hectares), is advancing toward the border at Osoyoos. Fire Chief Clayton Allen, Lt. Craig Ludman and firefighter Travis Lansing accompanied the truck to help fight the flames.

The following day, Aug. 6, the BCWS made a second request for a Type 2 Tactical Tender, also needed at Keremeos. In his second deployment of the season, having previously helped at the Brunswick Complex Fire near Boston Bar, Lt. Ken Davidson went to help, along with Ranchero/Deep Creek firefighter Kaitlyn Smith.

“Proud of our crews for answering the call and supporting wildfire efforts across the region,” SFR said on social media. “Stay safe out there!”
