A TV channel 'hinted' that the incident occurred off the coast of Oman. However, as the agency emphasizes, there has been no official statement from Tehran that Iran was behind this attack.

A week earlier, the Iranian command warned that all tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz must use only approved routes.

On July 6, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a vessel heading south toward the Gulf of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unknown projectile. The incident occurred eight nautical miles east of the Omani coastal settlement of Lima. The projectile struck the tanker's port side, causing a fire. The UKMTO noted no casualties or environmental damage, and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Axios, citing two U.S. officials, claims that Iranian military fired at least two missiles at commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz on the night of July 6.
