Tensions rise in the Middle East, commercial ship hit by unidentified projectile in Hormuz
A commercial vessel has been struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the announcement of the British Maritime Trade Operations agency.
According to British authorities, the incident occurred approximately 37 kilometers northeast of the city of Al Khasab in Oman. So far no injuries or significant damage to the ship have been reported, while the circumstances of the event remain unclear.
The event comes at a time when tensions in the Persian Gulf remain high. Although US President Donald Trump stated that "new negotiations with Iran are underway," authorities in Tehran have denied that talks with the United States have begun.
According to Iranian officials, diplomatic contacts are taking place only with Oman, with the aim of guaranteeing safe passage for ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime routes for global oil transport.
Meanwhile, the latest incident has added to concerns about navigational safety in the area. International sources indicate that several Gulf countries are considering the construction of a new energy pipeline, which would allow oil exports to bypass the Strait of Hormuz in the event of a closure or escalation of the conflict.
