Vietnamese and Chinese Prime Ministers Hold Phone Call, Discuss Bilateral Cooperation
On the morning of June 15, at the Government Headquarters, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung held a phone call with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and cooperation directions in the coming period.
The phone call took place against the backdrop of Vietnam-China relations maintaining a stable development momentum, with many cooperation mechanisms being implemented in various fields, according to information from the Government Electronic Newspaper.
The two sides expressed their delight at conducting the first phone call after the first session of the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam completed the leadership personnel of the Government.
Prime Minister Li Qiang congratulated Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on being trusted to take on the new responsibility, and highly appreciated his contributions to China-Vietnam relations in many working positions.
Vietnam Affirms Priority to Develop Relations with China
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung highly appreciated the viewpoint of Chinese leaders on prioritizing the development of relations with Vietnam in its neighborhood foreign policy.
He emphasized that the Party and State of Vietnam always consider developing relations with China a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its independent, self-reliant, multilateralized, and diversified foreign policy.
Promoting Implementation of High-Level Common Perceptions
The two Prime Ministers highly appreciated the positive progress in the relations between the two Parties and two countries in recent times. Especially the implementation of plans and action programs to realize the important common perceptions between the high-level leaders of the two sides.
The two sides agreed to maintain regular, sincere, and trustful exchanges, while closely coordinating to concretize the high-level agreements. Among them, the results from the state visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam, as well as the state visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping in 2025.
Orientation to Expand Cooperation in Many Fields
Regarding future cooperation, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung proposed that the two sides strengthen strategic trust, maintain effective existing cooperation mechanisms. Including the 3+3 Strategic Dialogue between diplomacy, defense, and public security.
He also proposed boosting infrastructure connectivity, especially railway cooperation, developing multimodal transport systems, enhancing connections with other countries and regions. The two sides need to promote balanced and sustainable bilateral trade, soon operate a smart border gate model, and build cross-border economic cooperation zones.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister also emphasized cooperation in science and technology, education, high-quality human resource training, healthcare, especially traditional medicine. At the same time, promote cultural and tourism cooperation and effectively implement the Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026-2027.
China Commits to Promoting Substantive Cooperation
Prime Minister Li Qiang affirmed that China always considers Vietnam a priority direction in its neighborhood foreign policy, ready to work with Vietnam to implement high-level common perceptions and promote substantive cooperation in many fields.
He agreed with the proposals of Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, and said that China is ready to strengthen railway cooperation, infrastructure connectivity with other countries and regions; enhance agricultural trade cooperation, inspection and quarantine; encourage enterprises to expand investment in science and technology, innovation, energy, and electricity connectivity.
The two sides also agreed to promote people-to-people exchanges, implement social welfare projects, and organize well the China-Vietnam Tourism Cooperation Year.
Exchange on Regional and International Issues
The two Prime Ministers also exchanged on international and regional issues of mutual concern, affirming close coordination to ensure the success of APEC Year 2026 and 2027 hosted by China and Vietnam.
The two sides agreed to continue to control and properly handle disagreements, maintain peace and stability at sea, contributing to a favorable environment for the development of each country.
