SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Four years ago on Memorial Day weekend, a deadly boat crash on the Wilmington River killed five people, including four members of the same family.

A grand jury has since indicted Mark Stegall on 18 charges in connection to the crash, including homicide by vessel, serious injury by vessel, and operating a vessel under the influence.

Chatham County prosecutors say Stegall was operating a boat on the Wilmington River while intoxicated, crashing into a boat traveling in the opposite direction.

Four members of the Leffler family, who were on the other boat, died.

Stephen Chauncey, who was on Stegall’s boat, was killed as well.

Stegall has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His trial docket call date is set for June 23rd.
