A New Era Begins on July 1: Deposit Refund Money Can Be Withdrawn in Cash from ATMs!

Turkey is entering a historic turning point in environmental and economic management. With the new application starting on July 1 under the Deposit Information Management System (DBYS), citizens will be able to withdraw the value of the packaging they have collected in cash from ATMs. All details of the giant project, which will contribute 30 billion TL annually to the country's economy, have been finalized.

The Turkey Environment Agency (TÜÇA), operating under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, is implementing a revolutionary application within the scope of the zero waste vision. The Depositable Packaging (DOA) system will track the entire process from production to the final stage of recycling through digital networks. The system, which not only protects nature but also provides citizens with direct additional income, becomes mandatory as of July 1. With the new era, plastic, glass and aluminum waste will literally turn into cash.

Registration Requirement for Grocers, Markets and Restaurants Has Started

Before the critical turning point of July 1, all commercial enterprises that sell or serve packaged beverages must integrate into the system. In this context, in addition to kiosks, grocery stores and chain markets, hotels, cafes, restaurants and food production facilities will also be included in the system. In order to expand the service network, airports, hospitals and shopping malls will also be transformed into large return centers. All these mentioned businesses must register with the Deposit Information Management System via the address "dbys.gov.tr" and select system operators as a legal obligation.

Both Incentive Payments and Customer Traffic for Businesses

Businesses that gain "Return Point" status by joining the system will obtain commercial advantages from this transformation. In line with the contracts to be made with selected operators, incentive payments will be made to workplaces at certain rates. In addition, consumers who visit shops to deliver their waste packaging will create new customer traffic and commercial mobility for tradesmen, indirectly contributing to retail sales.

Waste Money Can Be Withdrawn in Cash Directly from ATMs

The biggest innovation that will increase participation and break the mold is in payment methods. The process that will enable citizens to receive their money in cash will start with consumers purchasing and collecting plastic, glass and aluminum beverage packages bearing the special "DOA" logo. These accumulated wastes will be delivered to deposit return machines to be installed in markets or designated collection centers. The value of each package delivered will be credited to the user's digital account via the DOA mobile application within seconds. The accumulated balance can be transferred directly to bank accounts, withdrawn as cash from ATMs, or spent at contracted points.

Huge Annual Contribution of 30 Billion TL to the Economy

This model, which ensures that plastic, aluminum and glass beverage packaging is recycled without harming nature through a sustainable cycle, is also of great importance from a macroeconomic perspective. With the widespread use of the DOA system across the country, which will curb Turkey's import dependency on raw materials, it is predicted to provide a direct financial contribution of approximately 30 billion TL annually to the national economy. The project, which will prevent pollution of streets, seas and green areas, will be recorded as Turkey's biggest move so far in environmental protection activities.

Important Reminder: It is of great importance that commercial enterprises complete their DBYS registrations through official portals before July 1 to avoid facing penal sanctions. Consumers should pay attention to the "DOA" logos on the beverage packages they purchase.
