Russian authorities said that 11 people, including four children, were killed in a Ukrainian night attack on a tourist camp in the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia region. Another 16 people were injured in the incident. Russia made the accusation on Saturday. Ukraine did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment on the attack.
The Russian-appointed governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, Yevgeny Balitsky, said on Telegram that the attack was carried out in the coastal tourist town of Kyrylivka on the Azov Sea. He claimed the attack targeted civilians.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, both countries have accused each other of attacking civilian infrastructure and people. However, both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians.
Meanwhile, Ukraine claimed on Saturday that its drones struck an oil refinery in Siberia and an oil platform in the Caspian Sea. At the same time, both countries claimed to have attacked each other's ships, saying the ships were transporting military equipment.
Ukraine's SBU security service said it attacked the Filanovsky oil platform of Russia's Lukoil company in the Caspian Sea. The platform is part of one of Russia's largest oil fields. Lukoil did not immediately respond to Reuters' questions about the attack.
On the other hand, local authorities in the Tyumen region of Siberia said a drone struck an oil refinery in the area, causing a fire. It was not immediately clear whether the attack disrupted the refinery's operations.
Reuters reported that the two targets claimed by Ukraine are located about 2,000 kilometers and 700 kilometers from their border, respectively. This has sparked new discussions about Ukraine's drone attack capabilities and range deep inside Russia. Source: Reuters
