Ukrainian company SkyFall has developed a specialized drone, StarGate, designed for the evacuation of wounded servicemen from dangerous front-line areas. According to released information, the new aircraft can transport a person weighing up to 150 kilograms over a distance of up to 15 kilometers. The main feature of the development is the duplication of critical systems and the use of special safety algorithms that help the drone respond to emergency situations during flight. This technology could become an important tool for the Ukrainian military, especially in areas where the use of traditional evacuation transport carries a high risk, reports MigNews.

The development announcement notes that the need for such a drone arose for the Armed Forces of Ukraine several years ago. It was then, according to the author of the post, that an order was placed for the creation of a suitable evacuation vehicle. In the context of modern warfare, transporting the wounded remains one of the most complex tasks for medical and evacuation units. Situations where a serviceman requires urgent assistance but ground transport cannot quickly reach their location are particularly dangerous.

A significant difference of StarGate from ordinary drones is its approach to reliability. When transporting a person, any technical malfunction can have much more serious consequences than when transporting cargo. Therefore, according to available information, the developers have provided for redundancy of important components of the aircraft. This should reduce the risk of losing control in case of failure of individual systems, although it is impossible to completely eliminate the danger during flight.

Special attention is paid to the issue of protecting the wounded from enemy fire. The author of the report acknowledged that a drone with a person inside a capsule could potentially become a target for the enemy. At the same time, he emphasized that the use of such an aircraft does not mean launching it directly over enemy positions. According to his explanation, StarGate is primarily intended for critical situations where time for rescue is limited and alternative evacuation methods are unavailable or too dangerous.

The drone is used when time is measured in minutes and there is simply no other choice, – the message states.

It is expected that unmanned evacuation platforms can supplement traditional methods of transporting the wounded, reducing the need to send additional groups of people to dangerous areas. However, the practical application of StarGate will depend on the combat situation, the technical capabilities of the aircraft, and the results of its testing. Currently, there is no confirmed data on serial production, the number of drones transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, or instances of their use for evacuating servicemen.

The author of the report expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian developers for creating a technology that can potentially help save the lives of defenders.

Thank you, SkyFall. You will save many lives.

According to Associated Press, StarGate has already been handed over to a Ukrainian combat unit for testing in front-line conditions. The aircraft is equipped with six rotors, a medical capsule with a stretcher, and thermal imaging cameras. Its cruising speed is 65 km/h, and its maximum speed reaches 105 km/h. Preparation for departure, according to the manufacturer, takes about ten minutes. For operation in conditions of electronic warfare, two communication channels and navigation algorithms are used, which help to operate without GPS.

During the demonstration, developers also showed a system for countering enemy FPV drones. When one of the drones approached StarGate, a special device released a net that entangled the attacking aircraft. However, such a system does not guarantee complete protection from all possible attacks. In addition, the declared ability to continue flying after damage to individual structural elements still needs to be verified in real combat conditions.

According to SkyFall's preliminary estimates, the cost of one StarGate complex will be at least $50,000, depending on the configuration. The company also announced its intention to increase production to a thousand units per month by the end of 2026. However, these figures remain the manufacturer's plans, not confirmed production volumes. The Ukrainian military will need to assess the effectiveness of the new system after more extensive use on the front lines.
