Trump says US may ask Europe to release diesel stocks

US President Donald Trump says Washington may ask European countries to release diesel from their emergency stockpiles as the war on Iran continues to strain global fuel supplies.

“We may ask them to do that,” Trump told reporters on Thursday.

The comments came as the war on Iran has disrupted energy markets and pushed up fuel prices, adding pressure on governments to tap emergency reserves.

Trump says Iran must act ‘proper and smart’ or ‘won’t be around very long’

US President Donald Trump warns Iran that the current confrontation will end “very soon”, threatening severe consequences if Tehran fails to reach a deal with Washington.

Speaking at a Peterbilt Motors plant in Denton, Texas, Trump said Iran will either “do something very proper and smart, or they won’t be around very long”.

He also questioned whether Iran can be trusted to honour any agreement, saying: “When I make a deal with this company, you’re going to honour it. When you make a deal with them, it’s very possible that they won’t honour it.”

WATCH: British police arrest UK-Iranian national over RAF Fairford airbase incident

British counterterrorism police have arrested a man in connection with a security incident near a Royal Air Force base on Sunday. They say a dual UK-Iranian national has been arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts.

Five men were arrested on suspected terrorism and explosive offences but were later released on bail.

RAF Fairford has long been used by the US military and NATO forces. Since March, the US has operated from the base during the war on Iran.
