The United States will not abandon European allies if Russia launches an invasion of the Baltic states. All NATO members are already actively preparing to repel a potential enemy attack.

This statement was made by the US commanding general of NATO ground forces in Europe, Chris Donahue, reports Reuters.

Earlier, a new NATO command for forces in the Baltic states was presented in Estonia.

Against this background, Chris Donahue decided to reassure US allies. He emphasized that American soldiers are ready to fight side by side with Europeans if Russia starts a war.

"The United States will be with you. That's how deterrence is built: not with words from a podium, but with soldiers whose boots are stuck in the mud," the commander assured.

Incidentally, this statement by Chris Donahue contradicts recent threats by Donald Trump. The US President frightened Europe, saying it would be left alone with the Russian army if it invaded.

Despite this, NATO is preparing for different scenarios. For example, the Alliance has created a second command zone in the Baltic states and Poland.

This decision allowed the transfer of even more NATO troops to the borders with Russia.

"This is a clear and convincing demonstration of NATO's unity and readiness, as well as our collective determination to defend every inch of allied territory," commented German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on this step.
